Training camp for the 2021 New York Jets is more than a week in. There has been a ton of buzz with a whole new coaching staff, quarterback, and infused talent from both free agency and the draft. However, the team has shown some good things thus far. There are also some early concerns from camp as well which are expected.

Elijah Moore and Carl Lawson Have Been the Stars of Training Camp?

True. No surprises here, as these were two of the biggest additions the Jets made in the offseason. Lawson has been having his way with Mekhi Becton early on in training camp. Lawson is an extremely gifted edge pass rusher, which is great for Becton to compete against in practice. Since he was drafted, Moore has seemed like one of the best prospects the Jets have added in a long time. He has been making plays all over the field already. In 2021, expect Lawson and Moore to be two of the best players on the Jets.

So Far, Zach Wilson Seems to Have Met Expectations?

True. Since Wilson signed early on in training camp, he has of course been working with the starting team. To this point, reports indicate he has had some good and bad which is to be expected from a rookie quarterback. Wilson has certainly displayed his arm talent with some plays early in camp. He has a strong arm and has shown excitement. Overall, Wilson has proven why he has so much promise and potential. Watching Wilson in the preseason will be fun.

Young Players, who were Drafted Recently, are Locks to Make the Final Roster?

False. Some of these note-worthy players are Nathan Shepherd, Chuma Edoga, Blake Cashman, and James Morgan. With Shepherd, as a third-round pick, he has been a disappointment. In the new scheme, he will likely not be utilized as much. The Jets’ best position group right now also happens to be defensive tackle where they also have quality depth. With the Morgan Moses signing, along with George Fant and Conor McDermott as two backups, Edoga will have to earn it. Cashman has unfortunately battled injuries. Rookie draft picks Jamien Sherwood and Hamsah Nasirildeen have both worked with the starters at the Will linebacker position. With Morgan, it seems as if Mike White is currently ahead. The preseason will be vital for these players.

The Preseason will be Significant for the Entire Cornerback Group?

True. All three starting cornerback positions are up for competition. On the outside, Bryce Hall, Blessuan Austin, Jason Pinnock, Brandin Echols, and Isaiah Dunn will all have a chance at the two outside positions. In the slot, Michael Carter II and Javelin Guidry both have an opportunity to start. It will be interesting to see who ends up being utilized with the starters and second-team in the preseason games. Currently, this position group is by far the biggest unknown for the Jets.
