New York Giants at New England Patriots: Week 6 Preview

The New York Giants travel to New England to take on the Patriots this week as they look to bounce back following a rough Week 5 loss to the Vikings.

The Giants (2-3) are plagued by injuries and are expected to struggle on a short week against the dominant Patriots (5-0). This Thursday Night Football matchup is expected to be quite lopsided when all is said and done, as the Patriots have health and experience on their side.

The Giants fell last week to the Minnesota Vikings, 28-10, while the Patriots found themselves on the winning end of a 33-7 game against the Washington Redskins that led to the firing of Jay Gruden.

The Giants, while the superior unit in their two Super Bowl matchups against the Patriots, will be without starting receiver Sterling Shepard, starting running backs Saquon Barkley and Wayne Gallman, and starting tight end Evan Engram.

The Patriots have won six of their 10 all-time matchups against the Giants, including five of their last six. New England won the last matchup, 27-26, but lost the two teams’ last matchup in New England, 24-20. New England head coach Bill Belichick is 3-3 against the Giants, while Giants head coach Pat Shurmur has yet to challenge the Patriots.

Giants starting quarterback Daniel Jones has made three starts and appeared in four games, completing 70 of 109 passes for 760 yards, four scores, three interceptions, and a 85.4 rating. Tom Brady, meanwhile, is 118-for-187 with 10 scores and two picks, plus a 99.5 rating. He has thrown for 1,409 yards so far and is on pace to come close to an impressive 5,000-yard single-season feat.

Prediction

Football has seen miracles, but a Giants win would be far more than a miracle. It’s essentially (but not quite) impossible for the Patriots to lose tonight to a Giants team that is being plagued by injuries. The Patriots should lead by multiple possessions after one quarter and will win by at least four or five possessions when the game’s final whistle sounds.

Final Score: New York Giants 13, New England Patriots 45
