New Orleans Victorious Over Chicago

The New Orleans Saints continued their winning ways Sunday afternoon with a blowout win over the Chicago Bears despite missing Alvin Kamara.

Chicago started the game with possession of the ball and ended its first drive four plays later with a New Orleans team safety which put the Saints on the board first with 13:29 left in the first quarter. New Orleans came back in the next possession after several empty ones from both teams and put seven points on the board after Bridgewater connected with Taysom Hill for a seven-yard touchdown pass and Will Lutz kicked the PAT giving the Saints a 9-0 lead with just over three minutes left to play in the quarter.

The Bears answered back in a hurry when Cordarrelle Patterson took the ball for a 102-yard kickoff return on the ensuing kickoff. In their next possession, Chicago added another three points when an 11-play drive ended with an Eddy Pineiro 46-yard field goal with 11:33 on the clock, giving the Bears the one-point lead, 10-9.

The Bears went three-and-out on their next possession, and Lutz attempted another field goal to close out the Saints’ possession but missed the 42-yard kick when the ball went wide right.

The score remained 12-10 with just over two minutes to play in the quarter, and neither team was able to add any points to the board before the first half came to an end giving New Orleans a two-point lead going into halftime.

The Saints received the ball first to open the second half, and after another clock-eating drive, Latavius Murray rushed the ball for a three-yard touchdown extending the lead 19-10 with 12 minutes on the clock.

Chicago’s first possession ended when David Montgomery fumbled the ball and Saints linebacker A.J. Klein recovered the ball at the Chicago 29-yard line. New Orleans was unable to take advantage of the fumble as, for the second time in a row, Lutz missed another field goal, this time from 52 yards.

The Bears went three and out and, in the Saints’ next drive, they were able to score another touchdown after Bridgewater connected with Hill for a four-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 16, 26-10 with less than three minutes to play in the third quarter.

Lutz hit a 30-yard field goal on the opening drive of the fourth, making it 29-10. Chicago was unable to answer with any points in their next two possession and in the next New Orleans possession, Latavius Murray rushed the ball six of the seven plays of the drive, including the four-yard rushing touchdown which gave the Saints the 36-10 lead with four and a half minutes left in the game.

Chicago was finally able to put points on the board for the first time since the second quarter when Trubisky connected with Allen Robinson II for a seven-yard touchdown pass and then hit the mark with Adam Shaheen on the two-point conversion attempt and closed the gap 36-18 with 2:31 on the clock.

The onside kick following the two-point conversion was recovered by Chicago and the Bears were able to complete the first three plays of their drive before the two-minute warning timeout. With 48 seconds left in the game, Trubisky connected with Javon Williams to put six more points on the board to close shrink the margin to 36-25. The score would remain the same throughout the Saints’ last possession, and Teddy Bridgewater secured his fifth win in a row as a starting quarterback.

New Orleans will play against the Arizona Cardinals at home in Week 8, while Chicago will host another home game when they face the Los Angeles Chargers next week.
