We may be inching toward the resumption of the NBA season it seems. According to Shams, Disney World has emerged as a ‘clear front-runner’ to host the continuation of the season.

Disney World makes sense for a few reasons, including being located in Florida.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently had the following to say in regards to live sporting events:

“All professional sports are welcome here for practicing and for playing”. DeSantis later added “What I would tell commissioners of leagues is if you have a team in an area where they won’t let them operate, we’ll find a place for you in the state of Florida because we think it’s important and we know it can be done safely.”

Adam Silver and the NBA are going to need to be on the same page as state officials for this to work. It seems the Governor is willing to do what it takes to make live sports possible, making him the ideal partner in navigating this.

Further, the Walt Disney World Resort Property has over 30,000 hotel rooms on it. Housing for players and essential staff can’t be found in many places across the country. The fact that Disney has that many ready to use rooms on their property is very helpful for organizing the season.

Also on the property already is the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. There are already six regulation-size courts at the complex ready for use. There’s also a fair amount of areas to be used for team practices.

While a lot still needs to be figured out, Disney offers the NBA the most useful combination of assets for the likely ‘bubble city’.
