The Washington Nationals selected right-hander Cade Cavalli with the 22nd overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.

Cavalli should expect a $3,027,000 signing bonus for his 22nd pick slot position.

Cade Cavalli is a strong 6-foot-4, 220-pound right-handed pitcher that has a fastball that reaches 95-97 mph and could be a front-line starter by reaching full potential. His mechanics are very clean which could provide advanced hitters an opportunity to reach his fastball making the continued development of his hard slider key in the coming years. Regardless, he owns a nasty four-seam fastball and has not thrown too much at the collegiate level.

Cavalli was the Oklahoma Sooners Friday night starter the past two seasons and posted a 6-5 win-loss record with 3.57 ERA, recording 96 strikeouts in 83.1 innings pitched. This season, Cavalli was 1-2 in four starts with 4.18 ERA, striking out 37 and walking only five hitters in 23.2 innings.

Cavalli was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 29th round of the 2017 MLB Draft before enrolling at Oklahoma. The hurler was also a first baseman in high school and at the University of Oklahoma, but he’s expected to be used exclusively as a pitcher for the Nationals. Cavalli should be looked to progress quickly through the Washington organization and could see himself stepping in for some of the veterans on the Nationals staff in a few years.
