The final stretch of the 2021 World Motocross Championship has begun in Italy. The first leg of this stretch is taking place in the Autonomous Region of Trentino. Which has arguably the best backdrop for any Motocross venue anywhere in the world

Much like the Atlanta Braves in the MLB Playoffs, Jeffery Herlings has gotten red hot at the perfect time. The MXGP Class points leader is riding a stretch of six GP wins in the last seven rounds. Storming into the points lead in spite of missing three motos on the year. Meanwhile, in the MX2 title hunt, Maxime Renaux is well on track to clinch his first title as soon as this weekend. With three rounds in seven days, the young Frenchman would need to be 101 points up on teammate Jago Geerts to clinch after the final round of the week.

MX2 Class
Moto 1
Tom Vialle’s 14th holeshot of the year opened things up on the day, as he boat raced the rest of the field from that point on. Behind him, Jed Beaton fell early on, out of a top 10 spot and back a few spots. A shocker this Moto was Renuax, who had his worst Moto in almost three months on the dot. Finishing sixth here when he had not finished outside the top 4 since the first Moto in the Czech Republic. Not much of a concern seeing his points gap is massive but worth noting all the same. Vialle picked up Moto win number 11 in any case.
Moto 2
Holeshot 14 turned into Holeshot 15 for Vialle. The big story at the start however would be Renuax, who went down on his own in the opening corner. Any outside chance of a 6-1 for a Grand Prix win had likely been ended by his own hand. Back up at the point, it was a Red Bull KTM one-two with Vialle and Rene Hofer. That was until Hofer hit the deck from second place, giving up three spots to Geerts, Beaton, and then Ruben Fernandez.
Vialle would go 1-1 for the fourth time this year, for what was Grand Prix win number six on the year. Renaux would meanwhile make an excellent run through the field to finish eighth in the moto and in the Overall standings. A nice showing of his championship mettle.

MXGP Class
Moto 1
A welcome surprise rider would take the holeshot honors in the first premier class Moto. That was the pride of Switzerland Jeremy Seewer on the Monster Energy Yamaha. He took the point over teammate Ben Watson with Herlings behind in third. A ton of moves would then happen in the early goings. Watson would fall from second, followed by Herlings then moving from third to first in the ensuing moments. Then both Romain Febvre and Jorge Prado from the middle of the top 10 began to charge up to the front.
Prado would be the next rider to hit the deck on a downhill section from fifth in the closing stages of the Moto. Herlings would pick up the win, with Seewer, Febvre, and Tim Gajser all finishing close behind him.
Moto 2
Another surprise holeshot in the GP Class was Henry Jacobi here in Trentino. Febvre would rip the lead out of the German rider’s hand, then Glenn Coldenhoff would take second from Jacobi later on. Herlings, off a less than stellar start, charged through the top five here and made it up to Febvre before passing him. Second place would shuffle from Febvre to Gajser, then to Coldenhoff. Herlings, however, would win the day with another 1-1.
