MLB DraftKings Around the Horn June 20th, 2019

Joel Dorcas |June 20th, 2019

With the National Hockey League and NBA wrapping up their season’s a lot of attention will be now placed on Major League Baseball. The 2019 season has been a good one to-date with the usual suspects, Yankees, Astros, Dodgers rolling along just fine. Plenty of baseball awaits us for the long hot summer and plenty of teams will be making a push, Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies and maybe even the Cleveland Indians will look to make plenty of noise going forward.  That’s the grand scheme, we are here for DFS, so let’s break down Thursday’s schedule and go Around the Horn!

PITCHER

Jake Odorizzi MIN $10,800

It appears we have a few solid options for our sp1 tonight. Charlie Morton(TB), Walker Buehler(LAD), and my favorite, Jake Odorizzi will likely be at the top everyone’s lists. Odorizzi is continuing his resurgent season with a stellar 2.24 ERA  to go along with 85 K’s and just 24 BB’s in 76 innings of work this season. The Royals continue to be a low scoring team that is prone to striking out. This month they have only scored 49 runs(28th), and sport a league-high strikeout percentage of 27.3.

INFIELD

Joey Votto CIN 1B $4,000

The Cincinnati Reds continue to be a disappointment this season but perhaps a trip to Miller Park will awaken the bats. This month hasn’t been kind to the Reds as they are last in baseball in runs scored with just 41 in June(As of Tuesday). Joey Votto will get to face right-handed starter Jimmy Nelson whom he is hitting .346 off of as well as sporting a .431 wOBA and an OPS of 1.014. For his career, Votto has put up excellent numbers at Miller Park, he is hitting .339 with 18 HR and a .441 wOBA in 81 games played.

Jonathan Lucroy LAA $3,400

The Angels have certainly turned things up a notch of late ranking fifth in runs scored this month with 95. They will draw the Blue Jays at Rogers Center. The Angels have a very productive lineup now that Shohei Ohtani and Justin Upton have returned to the offense. As a whole, the Angels are hitting .352 in 71 at-bats with a .980 OPS off of left-handed starter Clayton Richard. In 20 at-bats, when matched up versus Richard, Lucroy has eight hits and an OPS of 1.079.

OUTFIELD

Christian Yelich MIL $5,900

With the potential of allotting heftier salaries to just one starting pitcher the prospects of having extra funds to other parts of the lineup present’s itself today. Mike Trout, Bryce Harper are all in play as well as the reigning N.L. MVP Christian Yelich. Yelich has been one of the league’s best hitter of late hitting .420 with a .504 wOBA in his last 12 games. Yelich is 11-for-42 in his career off of Reds starter Tanner Roark.

Justin Upton LAA $4,200

Upton finally made his long-awaited season debut Monday night against the Blue Jays and wasted no time in contributing to the offense going 2-for-4 with a homer. Thursday looks to be promising as well with a lefty opposing him in Clayton Richard. Upton is a 12-for-27 lifetime with six runs scored,  two RBI and a .462 wOBA versus Richard. Upton is sporting similar numbers when matched up against lefties and right-handed pitchers as he carries the same batting average(.268) versus both handedness, however, he is slugging better(.501/.471), and carries a higher wOBA(.371-.351)
