MLB DFS September 11: Pitchers, Hitters, and Stacks

MLB DFS September 11: Kenta Maeda

Tonight’s main slate of action includes 10 games starting at 8:05 p.m. ET. Even though Yankees and Orioles players are listed, those players won’t be eligible for scoring as they play a doubleheader. So make sure you don’t throw Gerrit Cole or anyone else into a lineup without thinking. With that out of the way, let’s get to some options for your lineups in MLB DFS for September 11. As per usual, all pricing and research is based on DraftKings.

Pitchers

Lucas Giolito ($10,500)

The stud White Sox pitcher is making his third start since pitching a no-hitter against the Pirates on August 25th. Giolito has been dominant this season with a 0.99 WHIP and 75 strikeouts to 18 walks in 54.2 innings pitched. He faces a Tigers lineup that is worst in the league in strikeout rate (27.3%), 26th in on-base percentage (.310), and 19th in home runs per game rate (1.26).

Kenta Maeda ($10,200)

Maeda is coming off two straight starts in which he surrendered three runs against the aforementioned Tigers, but other than that he has been very effective this season. He didn’t factor into the decision the last start but still scored 21.7 DraftKings points and is averaging 23.3 DraftKings points per game on the season. He holds a 0.72 WHIP while striking out 56 and walking just eight in 48.2 innings. The Indians are 26th in home runs per game (0.98), 27th in batting average (.225), 19th in strikeouts per game (8.70), and 28th in slugging (.362).

Other options: Shane Bieber ($11,000 – lock), Luis Castillo ($9,800), Kris Bubic ($6,600), Yusei Kikuchi ($6,200)

Hitters

Jose Abreu ($5,500)

The White Sox slugger is currently on a 22-game hit streak and has 13 homers on the season and faces a rookie pitcher in Casey Mize. 10 of his 13 homers this season have been off right-handers while he has hit 51 dingers off righties since 2018. Mize hasn’t been able to break out yet even while showing some promise and hasn’t been able to work past 4.1 innings. It is a good shot for Abreu to barrel one up.

Whit Merrifield ($4,500)

Merrifield has had three straight multi-hit games and picked up at least one hit in all four games of the Royals series against the Indians. He has good career numbers against lefties and faces a mediocre one in Steven Brault. Brault holds a 1.50 WHIP, 7.9 percent swinging-strike rate, and a 1.43 K/BB rate on the season, while he rarely generates whiffs. Merrifield makes contact on 89.7 percent of pitches in the zone and he has a great eye.

PvB Play: Joey Votto ($3,900) vs. Adam Wainwright

Votto is 17-for-51 (.333) in his career against Wainwright with three homers while he has hit right-handers fairly well. He hasn’t been hitting extremely well this season, but he is someone who can always mash against a familiar pitcher. Votto picked up a hit when he and the Reds faced Wainwright earlier this season.

Stacks

San Diego Padres vs. Johnny Cueto

Cueto hasn’t been terrible against right-handed batters, but lefties have killed him for a 1.98 HR/9 rate and a .270 ISO. Trent Grisham ($4,800) and Mitch Moreland ($4,000) are solid options at the top of the order, while Jake Cronenworth ($4,000) and Juricksan Profar ($3,300) are good power sources at the bottom. Whoever starts behind the plate between Austin Nola ($5,000) and Jason Castro ($4,300) are also in play for this stack. Don’t be afraid to pay up for Fernando Tatis Jr. ($6,000) and Manny Machado ($5,700) just because Cueto hasn’t been killed by righties.

Home run call: Trent Grisham
