MLB DFS: Saturday Early Slate

MLB DFS: Saturday early slate: Trey Mancini

Another day, another chance to win some cash. Last night our main hitters came through big, but our pitchers not so much. Today we try to put it all together with a five-game afternoon slate. Not many pitching options out there, so we will need to spend up on the mound and find some value at the plate. Let’s see what we have to work with for MLB DFS this afternoon.

***All Prices are DraftKings***

Zach Plesac $9,800

The 26-year-old had an excellent season last year in Cleveland. Of course many might’ve missed it as all eyes were on teammate Shane Bieber and his Cy Young performance. Make no mistake, Plesac can throw. He had an impeccable 24.8 percent K-BB rate and held opponents to a .565 OPS. He is facing the Detroit Tigers today who don’t really scare anyone. Last time Plesac faced his division foes, he threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball with 11 Ks. Expect more of the same and pay for the ace today.

Tanner Houck $7,800

The Boston Red Sox first-round pick in 2017 made three starts with the big club last year and looked good. Houck struck out a third of the batters he faced last season and held opponents to a .443 OPS. While it is a small sample, he is up against the Baltimore Orioles lineup. Nobody’s idea of an offensive juggernaut. His teammates got absolutely shut down by John Means yesterday but they should come through with some runs against Matt Harvey today. For a mid-range price, I’ll take the expected run support and strikeout upside.

Alex Verdugo OF $4,300

The Sox centerfielder went 0-4 yesterday against Means but then again Boston managed only two hits as a team. Look for Verdugo to bounce back today. He hits near the top of the lineup and has had success at Fenway Park. In 30 games there, Verdugo has an OPS of .875 with 10 doubles and a trio of HRs. He should be able to square up something against the artist formerly known as the Dark Knight.

Joey Gallo OF $3,600

It will be a beautiful day in Kansas City and the wind will be helping balls leave the yard at 15 mph to centerfield. The Rangers and Royals combined for 24 runs on Thursday and while this game may not see that many, expect the offense to continue. Gallo walks plenty giving him a solid floor for points and he is always a threat to blast one. Even though he’s facing lefty Mike Minor, the matchup doesn’t scare me at all. Lock in Gallo for a nice price.

Trey Mancini 1B $2,000

Is this price for real? Yes, it is. Mancini made a triumphant return to the diamond yesterday from his battle with cancer. It was truly great to see him back. Let’s not forget though that this man can rake. In 2019, he blasted 35 HRs, 38 doubles and finished with an .899 OPS. Take this price and run with it. Mancini will be in all my lineups today.

Home Run Call for Today: Xander Bogaerts

Good Luck Everyone.
