MLB DFS: Looking California, Feeling Minnesota

MLB DFS: West Coast Love

We have a heavy 11-game slate starting at 7 pm ET tonight. As such, there is a smorgasbord of options for our MLB DFS lineups. Aside from the pitchers, there are quite a few players who fall into the sweet category of $4,000-$5,000 on DraftKings. Let’s take a look at some of my favorites and see if we can’t win some cash this evening.

Be sure to check us out daily for our DFS content.

On the Mound

Joe Musgrove vs. Cincinnati Reds ($8,600)

Musgrove is a must-start, especially at home against a horrible Reds lineup. Aside from David Peralta getting to him in his first start, the Padres righty has been lights out this season. He has 14 strikeouts without walking a batter and looked great against the defending champs last time out tossing 89 pitches and shutting down Atlanta for 6.2 innings. Cincinnati won’t stand a chance and I am actually surprised the price is not higher for Musgrove.

Cole Irvin vs. Baltimore Orioles ($6,300)

Yes. It is picking on the Orioles time again. While Irvin isn’t going to blow anyone away with his stuff (he averages 92 mph on his fastball), he does throw innings. This is a play that offers upside. Irvin is not a strikeout machine but what we are looking for at the bargain price here are a win and limited damage. The Orioles’ offense is anemic, to say the least, and Irvin has a real shot at putting up 17-20 DK points tonight.

On the Dirt

C.J. Cron, 1B ($4,700)

Who leads the majors in home runs? Cron is the answer with five and although he is tied with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Ozzie Albies, he is still under $5,000. And at Coors Field, no less. Cron has five multi-hit games and has put up 123 DK points in 10 games. He is also a respectable 4-for-14 with a HR for his career against Phillies starter Kyle Gibson.

Jorge Polanco, 2B ($3,600)

This could be the beginning of a hot streak by Polanco. He went 2-for-5 last night with a HR after going hitless his previous two games. Tonight, the Twins start a series in Kauffman Stadium where Minnesota’s second baseman had success last year. Polanco slashed .316/.366/.605 in Kansas City in 2021 with three bombs and nine RBIs in nine games. He also has more pop against right-handers, and he will be facing Carlos Hernandez tonight.

Justin Turner, 3B ($3,900)

Turner is another player just starting to rake. He has three hits and a walk in his last seven plate appearances. That includes his first two extra-base hits of the season. The Dodgers want some sort of revenge for the ousting from the playoffs last season. Turner could be in the middle of that. He is also 5-for-10 with a home run against starter Max Fried.

Other Options: Joey Votto ($3,500), Matt Olson ($3,400), Carlos Correa ($4,300)

On the Grass

Christian Yelich ($4,800)

One more guy who is just getting hot is Yelich. He had the grand slam last night and has three walks to just one K in his last couple of games. That tells me that the lefty is seeing the ball well. Even though the former MVP struggled last season he still slashed .271/.387/.394 against right-handers and will face JT Brubaker tonight at home.

Andrew Benintendi ($4,300)

The former first-round pick should be a staple in your lineups tonight. He likes to face Minnesota starter Chris Archer, going 5-for-14 against the Twins right-hander. He also likes to hit against righties in general with an OPS almost .100 points higher (.810-.714) and 56 of his 69 HRs coming against them in his career. Benny is also playing in Kauffman Stadium where he slashes .289/.351/.440. The Royals outfielder has hit well to start the season also at 10-for-28 while striking out just three times. He is my Home Run Call tonight.

Other Options: Connor Joe ($4,400), Ian Happ ($4,100), Lourdes Gurriel Jr. ($4,000)

Good luck with all of your DFS lineups tonight.
