Happy Labor Day everyone and enjoy your day off if you’re lucky enough to have off today. To help you celebrate, let’s roll through some DFS picks for tonight’s six-game main slate starting at 6:05 P.M. est and win some money. As usual, here are some arms, bats, and stacks as well as my home run call at the end. Let’s roll.
Arms
Zach Plesac ($7,600)
Making his second start since returning from the alternate site after breaking COVID-19 protocol, Plesac faces a Royals lineup he shut down his first start back. Back on September 2, he struck out six over six innings while surrendering just one run (home run) on four hits and no walks. That earned him 25.1 DraftKings points while he hasn’t pitched less than six innings in a start this season. He should go deep into the game and also have a good chance to be in line for the win.
Dinelson Lamet ($8,800)
The Padres’ right-hander has had a breakout season this year as he holds a 2.62 ERA and 0.94 WHIP — both would be career-highs — while he has struck out 57 batters to just 15 walks over 44.2 innings. While Lamet has surrendered three runs in each of his last two starts, he has yet to give up more than that in any of his starts this year. He faces the Rockies outside of Coors and the Padres’ lineup will certainly give him a chance to grab the win, as they are dangerous up and down.
Other options: Max Scherzer ($10,400 – lock), Zac Gallen ($9,200), Charlie Morton ($7,300) **pitch count** – be cautious
Bats
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. ($4,300)
Gurriel has been having a great season as he is slashing .290/.346/.486 through 153 plate appearances and is coming off a 4-for-6 day against the Red Sox yesterday. He faces Jordan Montgomery who is coming off a terrible start in which he lasted just two-thirds of an inning and surrendered four runs against the Rays. All five of the home runs he has allowed this season have come against right-handed batters and I could certainly see Gurriel mashing one out for his seventh on the season.
DJ LeMahieu ($5,500)
LeMahieu went hitless in yesterday’s loss to the Orioles and at least one hit is almost guaranteed as “The Machine” hasn’t gone hitless in back-to-back games he has started all season. On the season, he is slashing .363/.397/.522 with a .414 wOBA, 11.6% K rate, and 87.6% contact rate (would be career-high). While he hits well against anyone, he has hit more than half times the amount of home runs (16) against lefties than righties (29) in more than two times the amount of plate appearances (387-970) since 2018.
Stacks
San Diego Padres vs. Kyle Freeland
Freeland is coming off two straight awful starts in which he gave up eight runs overall (four in each) over 6.1 innings. One of those starts was against these same Padres who are solid one through nine in the order. Freeland has given up a 1.2 HR/9 rate and has just a 9.5% swinging strike rate while the Padres have struck out at a 21.5% rate, seventh-lowest in the league. They have also hit the second-most homers in the league with 74, just behind the Dodgers’ 79 bombs. Top stack options are Fernando Tatis Jr. ($5,800), Manny Machado ($5,700), Jake Cronenworth ($4,200), Eric Hosmer ($5,000), and Austin Nola ($4,800).
Home run call: Luke Voit ($4,900)
