MLB DFS 5/26: Lefty Lightning and Thursday Thundersticks

MLB DFS 2022

It’s a nine-game slate tonight at 7:05pm EDT in MLB DFS, so let’s keep the good times rolling. We’re looking to gamble on value plays across the league. If a few of those come through, there’s a good chance our lineups hit the cash. Some value plays will be listed below, and some of my favorite heavy-hitters will be listed afterwards in the “Stud Finder”. I’m betting hard on pitching value, which ends up leaving significant money for your lumber. Let’s put some balls over the fence and run away with a few contests today.

Make sure to bookmark our DFS page for our daily lineup picks.

Value on the Hill

Martin Perez – at Oakland ($8,300)

This is tough slate for which to choose pitchers, as there are a ton of great options. There are several more expensive options, and many in the middle of the pack perfectly capable of tossing a great game. Give me Perez, who has won his last three decisions while allowing a grand total of two runs. In fact, he has allowed just three runs across his last six starts. Each of those six, Perez went at least six innings, including his last start at Houston where he blanked the Astros for a complete game shutout. The southpaw carries a 3-2 record with a lovely 1.64 earned run average and 1.01 WHIP. Tonight, he’ll be missing bats in Oakland, who scores an average of just 2.60 runs per game at home.

Konnor Pilkington – at Detroit ($4,000)

We are sticking with another lefthander facing a less-than-stellar lineup. Pilkington is a relative unknown, as he has made just four appearances this season, with three being in relief. This is a monster gamble, so do your due diligence, as it’s possible that Pilkington may not make it through five innings. However, if he keeps his pitch count down against a Tigers lineup that sits last in the league in nearly any offensive category of note (by a long shot), Cleveland is likely to let the 24-year-old keep rolling. Keep in mind, this was slated to be an Aaron Civale start, so I don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion that this is a bullpen game. Pilkington has a 2.08 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP and 11 strikeouts in 8.2 innings of limited work. If he hits five innings tonight for $4,000, we can ride the bats to victory.

Value in the Field

Kiké Hernández, OF – at Chicago White Sox ($3,500)

The Red Sox have won just as many games on the road as at home (10), and part of that is scoring a touch more in away games. After beginning the season slow to pick up the offense, they have vaulted all the way up to No. 11 overall in runs scored/game. As the visiting team, Boston is scoring at a 4.57 runs/game clip. That bodes well for their previously struggling leadoff hitter, who is now finding his stroke again. In his last nine contests, Hernandez has 12 hits including a quartet of multi-hit games and a homer. He has also scored eight times during that stretch. He’ll check into the box against Dallas Keuchel and his 6.60 ERA/2.00 WHIP with only 16 punchouts for the White Sox.

Brendan Rodgers, 2B – at Washington ($4,500)

Rodgers began turning the corner a few weeks back, and is now in the throws of a 12-game hitting streak. During that streak, he is slashing .367/.392/.510 (that’s a .902 OPS, for you math geniuses). His overall numbers don’t look nearly as impressive, but he has steadily improved them during that stretch where he also recorded a dinger, four doubles, seven runs and nine runs batted in. In short, Rodgers is feeling it right now and DFS is often about riding the hot hand. Finally, Colorado is in Washington to face Patrick Corbin, who is arguably my favorite pitcher to line up guys against. Multiple lineups with Rockies stacks should be a prerequisite.

Yadiel Hernández, OF – vs Colorado ($3,100) PIVOT: Alek Thomas ($3,000)

Staying in the same game, the Rockies are trotting out the usually reliable Germán Márquez. However, on the season, Marquez is 1-4 with a 6.14 ERA thus far. Hernandez has been having a very consistent season for the Nationals while stuffing the stat sheet, and I expect Washington to get to Marquez often tonight. They’ll have to, in order to keep up with the damage done to Corbin. Hernandez is batting a cool .308 with three bombs, 13 runs/20 RBI, eight walks and one stolen base.

If Hernandez happens to be held out, I like Thomas to have a good night at home against the Dodgers. Thomas is hitting .283 with three moonshots with the boomstick. While he has just six RBI to his name thus far, he’s still hauling around an .850 OPS and gets a look at Mitch White of Los Angeles, making just his second start. White is traditionally a reliever, and he’s had just six appearances this season, with multiple stops in Triple-A sprinkled in between them. In those six major league games where he saw action, he has a 6.17 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with just 13 strikeouts.

Stud Finder: C.J. Cron (1B – COL), Gary Sanchez (C – MIN), Jose Ramirez (3B – CLE), Corey Seager (SS – TEX), Mookie Betts (OF – LAD)

Saving a lot of money on the values leaves a wealth to blow on these studs. Each of these are affordable if this was an entire lineup with the value picks. I’m not suggesting this is a full lineup to play (although I’m not NOT suggesting it, either), but these guys are playing well and could rake tonight. Best of luck with all your lineups this evening, let’s make some money.
