Mike Zimmer Gives Update on Everson Griffen Contract Negotiations, Praises Growth of Trae Waynes

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer touched upon the biggest name on the team’s list of free agents.

Zimmer confirmed in a question asked by Prime Time Sports Talk, that both sides are working on getting a deal done with defensive end Everson Griffen.

“We met with his agent yesterday,” Zimmer said. “Everson’s a terrific person and I think our situation is the right one for him.”

Zimmer has high hopes that Griffen will return to wear the purple and gold.

“We expect him to be back, I think he wants to be back,” Zimmer said. “So those kind of things usually work its way out.”

The Vikings head coach also talked about another pending free agent cornerback Trae Waynes, praising his growth and improvement since being drafted.

“Trae is a great kid, very good tackler, has got great speed,” Zimmer said. “I hope nobody is as good as when we drafted them [but better] when they leave. “He is a great guy, hope to get him back and we’ll see what happens.”

In regards to the secondary, it is a top priority for Zimmer and the front office.

“I don’t know when we will address it, I’m sure we will have to address it,” Zimmer said. “We got a lot of decisions to make there on the back end. But, that’s part of the process we have to go through.

The Vikings have quite a few decisions to make in free agency with defensive backs Anthony Harris and Mackensie Alexander also hitting free agency on March 18.
