Former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen is now officially part of Manchester United. The 30-year-old Danish midfielder is headed to Old Trafford after joining the Red Devils on a three-year deal. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the move is official. He becomes the club’s second signing this season, as they signed defender Tyrell Malacia earlier this month.

Eriksen was with Tottenham from 2013 to 2020, having previously played at Ajax. During his time in north London, he scored 69 goals in 305 appearances across all competitions and was a runner-up in the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League and 2014-15 EFL Cup. He was also two-time Tottenham Hotspur Player of the Year. Eriksen left Tottenham in January 2020 to sign with Inter Milan where he would win the 2020-21 Serie A and finish as runner-up in the 2019-20 UEFA Europa League. Eriksen spent last season with English club Brentford where he appeared in eleven games, scoring one goal.

A Boost to Manchester United’s Midfield and Attack

Eriksen is a perfect signing for Manchester United. Eriksen’s style of play as a brilliant attacking midfielder has been well-documented. Throughout the course of his career, he has proven that he excels in all midfield categories, which has earned him the reputation as a productive playmaker. His unique ability to create scoring chances and provide assists ought to provide a huge boost for Man U’s offensive attack.

Eriksen should be expected to do extremely well playing alongside Bruno Fernandes. Both midfielders have the potential of forming quite a formidable dynamic duo. Such a duo would provide an even bigger boost for the offensive attack. In addition, Donny van de Beek ought to benefit well from learning and improving from Eriksen. Playing alongside his new teammate would be huge for van de Beek, and it could be huge for the club. However, van de Beek’s role for the upcoming season is not clear. Manager Erik ten Hag expressed his belief that van de Beek can excel as an attacking midfielder. That brings up the possibility of an Eriksen-van de Beek pairing.

Eriksen’s Relationship with ten Hag

After Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest last summer at the Euro 2020 tournament, ten Hag invited the midfielder to train at Ajax as part of Eriksen’s rehab. Considering how the player came back strong, it’s a no-brainer for Eriksen to want to play under the manager. Eriksen has praised ten Hag’s managerial skills and vision. Considering he helped Eriksen recover, it’s only fitting for them to now be working together. A positive relationship between Eriksen and ten Hag is huge for Manchester United. The club hopes that moving forward, all negative vibes can effectively disappear.
