The 2019 NHL trade deadline has passed and the LA Kings roster now looks…pretty much the same as it did before the deadline. Rob Blake and Luc Robitaille certainly made a couple of notable trades, but the 2019 deadline was certainly not the fire sale fans were expecting. It seems as though the front office is content with waiting until the offseason to really rework the roster. Here are all the trades the Kings made prior to the 2019 trade deadline.
Jake Muzzin:
The first trade the team made was without question their biggest. The Kings sent star defenseman and fan favorite Jake Muzzin to the Toronto Maple Leafs for two prospects and a 2019 first round pick. Muzzin had 21 points and a plus-minus of plus 10 before being shipped off to Toronto, where the Leafs hope he can spark their defense to a Stanley Cup victory. He still has an additional year on his contract.
Nate Thompson:
Los Angeles sent veteran center Nate Thompson and a fifth-round pick to the Montreal Canadiens for a fourth-round pick. Thompson was set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season. The Kings didn’t the aging forward in their future so they opted to salvage a mid-round draft pick out of him.
Carl Hagelin:
The Kings initially acquired Carl Hagelin straight up for Tanner Pearson early on in the season, but in the long run, it was just a salary move for the Kings. He was going to be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason so the Kings traded him to Washington for 2019 third round and 2020 sixth round picks. In the end, the Kings essentially moved Tanner Pearson for a third round selection.
Oscar Fantenberg:
A few hours before the deadline had been reached, the team sent young defenseman Oscar Fantenberg for a 2020 fourth round pick.
