The whole saga between Kylian Mbappé and Real Madrid appears to have finally come to an end. Mbappé joining Real Madrid is officially not happening. Despite a report insisting that Real Madrid was to announce the signing of Mbappé, the 23-year-old French forward will be staying with Paris Saint-Germain. Interestingly enough, Mbappé intended to announce his decision after the Champions League final.

Mbappé had previously turned down numerous offers from PSG. Last year, Real Madrid placed a €220 million bid for Mbappé only for PSG to reject the offer. The new deal for Mbappé is for three years. Furthermore, it’s being reported that manager Mauricio Pochettino and sporting director Leonardo are both expected to depart PSG.

What does this mean for Real Madrid?

Considering that Real Madrid ended their quest to get Erling Haaland because they had an agreement with Mbappé, this one really stings. From the looks of it, this may go down as Real Madrid’s biggest and most humiliating transfer failure.

At the end of the day, Real Madrid can move on and set its sights on another young prospect. In Mbappé’s case, this was his opportunity to take his career to the next level with the potential of winning the Champions League. Based on PSG’s performance in the Champions League, they have solidified themselves as a club not capable of winning the tournament. Therefore, this may negatively impact Mbappé more than Real Madrid.

What Does this Mean for Mbappé?

It’s probably safe to say that Real Madrid may never bother trying to sign him again. At the moment, this may affect his future as far as other clubs attempting to sign him because it’s clear that PSG is likely to try and successfully convince him to stay once his new deal is at or near its end. In addition, considering that Mbappé reportedly had a verbal agreement with Real Madrid, it may be difficult for other clubs to trust him in the future. This whole saga can very well haunt him.

Regardless of how the whole PSG/Real Madrid drama went, there’s no doubt that other teams will make plans to try to sign him in the future. No doubt Arsenal would love to make up for their previous failed attempt to sign him. Liverpool was previously linked with Mbappé for a possible move, so there’s no counting them out. In addition, the likes of Chelsea, Barcelona, and Juventus can always be on the hunt, as well.

Moving forward, Mbappé’s performance and success on the pitch will solidify his future. Not only must he play well, but Mbappé must keep his act together. At this point, it’s not only about his career in domestic play but in international play, as well.
