Kyle Allen Joins Ron Rivera in Washington

Following the news that XFL quarterback P.J. Walker is signing with the Carolina Panthers, it was only a matter of time before either Kyle Allen or Will Grier were sent somewhere else.

On Monday afternoon, the Panthers sent Kyle Allen to the Washington Redskins in exchange for a fifth-round pick.

In the preseason last year, Allen was named the backup quarterback to Cam Newton, who appeared in two games before he was injured, and coming back after a shoulder injury in the 2018 season.

During the 2019 season, Allen played in all 13 games and started in 12 of them.  The first Carolina victory of the season was in Arizona, Allen’s home state, was his second career start.

During what ended up being a very mediocre and disappointing season for the Panthers, Allen posted 323 completions of 520 attempts for 3,588 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions for an 80.0 rating.

The Panthers finished the season 5-11 after losing the final eight games of the season. Head coach Ron Rivera was fired in early December after the Panthers lost to the Washington Redskins, where he ironically ended up getting hired.

Allen joins Thomas Davis in reuniting with the former Carolina Panthers coach. Will there be any other Carolina Panthers players to follow suit?
