The Boston Bruins have solved their Free Agent situations as of the 2019 offseason. However, it’s never inadequate to start looking at what’s ahead. For the Bruins, the 2020 summer brings a ton of questions and a lot of free agents.
One of those Free Agent players in question will be Torey Krug. Krug has become one of the most productive defensemen in the NHL. Last season, he collected 53 points in the regular campaign and added another 18 points in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Those are some solid numbers.
Krug affronts his new contract discussions with ease. As he said before, he would be willing to take a hometown discount to stay with the Bruins. Formerly, an undrafted defenseman has become a key player for his club.
In his recent interview, once again, Krug indicated that he would like to get that new deal signed.
In an interview with The Athletic, Krug was asked to reveal what was the best present his teammates ever gave him, or what was his gift to his teammates.
“You got nice bottles of wine every year from guys when you do charity events. I don’t know if I’d call it a gift, but I got Jarome Iginla to sign a stick, so that was pretty cool,” Krug said.
Subsequently, the 28-year-old defenseman continued.
“I haven’t given out a gift yet, but hoping I get a (long-term) contract first,” Krug said with a laugh.
On several occasions now, Krug declared he would like to get a new deal done sooner rather than later. It would up to the Bruins management whether they choose to go the way of signing Krug prematurely or simply wait for the upcoming season’s finish.
One thing is clear, with every other point registered, Krug’s price on the open market would be higher than now. Nevertheless, Boston can have that loyalty advantage.
