Days after 250 rider Cameron McAdoo announced that he had a fractured tibia, a duo of new ailments have hit the AMA Motocross Paddock. This time, to a former 450 Supercross Champion. As well as one of McAdoo’s teammates. Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Jason Anderson via himself and his team reported on Instagram that he had suffered a broken hand.

In other health news, Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Seth Hammaker announced that he will be taking a couple of rounds off to focus on his health.

Anderson Injury:

Stephen Westfall, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team manager said this on Thursday about his rider.

“It’s very unfortunate that Jason had a crash while practicing today, resulting in a broken right hand. We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to having him back to the races ASAP.”

Short and to the point if anything. Anderson decided to take to Instagram later in the evening on Thursday. Having this to say regarding his injury.

Nice to hear about him trying to come back at the end of Motocross. Rumor of Anderson moving over to Monster Energy Kawasaki has increased recently. With that in mind, it is nice to see Anderson wanting to end his stint with Husqvarna on a high note. This under the assumption he leaves of course. As far as a timeline for his return which he eluded to on Instagram, the early word via Racer X, among others, is that Anderson will miss six-to-eight weeks. This would put him on track to return at Millville at the absolute earliest. Which this year falls on July 17th. Despite a strong effort in Pala for sixth overall, this almost certainly ends Anderson’s Motocross title hopes.

Hammaker Illness:

Early on Thursday, Hammaker took to Instagram to say he was taking some time off from the Motocross season due to some personal health issues. This after a lackluster result at the first of two Pala Nationals.

Despite Hammaker not going fully into what is causing him to feel unwell, which he has every right not to, Racer X’s Mitch Kendra stated that it is an illness issue. In 2020 Hammaker had a stint with Epstein-Barr Virus. For those unaware, a couple of key symptoms of the Epstein-Barr Virus are fatigue and fever. A bad combination for any athlete. According to our own Dr. Beth Sullivan, Epstein-Barr Virus is linked to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, which lines up with those symptoms. In addition, 90 percent of mononucleosis, cases are caused by Epstein-Barr Virus as well.

Hammaker’s 2020 stint with Epstein-Barr Virus caused him to miss what would have been his rookie Motocross season. On top of what would have been his final stint at the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Championships. Additionally, Hammaker is just one of many riders who have had Epstein-Barr Virus in the past. Ken Roczen, Jimmy Decotis, Martin Davalos, Justin Bogle, and countless others have all had it at some point. The High Point National, as Hammaker mentions, is just over two weeks away. With that said, lots of rest is likely on the docket for him in the meantime. Most importantly, we wish Anderson and Hammaker the best in their time away. Hopefully, they both can return to racing sooner rather than later.
