Jacksonville Jaguars: Nick Foles missing OTAs for personal reasons

The Jacksonville Jaguars made a big splash this offseason by agreeing to a massive deal with former Super Bowl MVP quarterback, Nick Foles. But yesterday, the Jaguars got word that Foles will be missing the team’s organized activities for an indefinite amount of time.

It is unclear what the “personal reason” for Foles’ absence was or just how long he’ll be out. However, NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo reports that Foles could be back at the end of the week, mentioning that the absence is considered open-ended at the moment.

Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said in a statement that “our thoughts and prayers are with Nick and his family.”

“He knows, like anything else, that we’re here for him,” Marrone added. “The football part, we’ll just figure that out.”

After becoming a free agent this offseason, the former Eagles backup agreed to a four-year, $88 million contract that made him the immediate starter. Blake Bortles was released, as was Cody Kessler.

Currently, the Jaguars’ trio of backups consists of Tanner Lee, Alex McGough, and Gardner Minshew, all of whom will serve as interim QB in Foles’ absence. The team closes out OTAs next week before holding a mandatory three-day minicamp from June 11 to 13.
