Jacksonville Jaguars 2021 Fantasy Preview

Trevor Lawrence

The Jacksonville Jaguars come into 2021 with an infusion of youth and one big name: Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence was the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft and he has immediately assumed the role of the starting signal-caller. Obviously, there is a lot more value to this team than just Lawrence in the fantasy world, but some tough decisions regarding nearly every position group.

Make sure to check out all of our other 2021 Fantasy Football Previews.

Quarterbacks – Trevor Lawrence

We mentioned Lawrence in our intro but he has a really nice fantasy outlook. He’s not one to take high like a Dak Prescott or Patrick Mahomes, however, he’s a very good late-round quarterback pickup. The weapons at his disposal are very, very, good (minus tight end). Lawrence should adapt to Urban Meyer’s offense relatively quickly and be able to put up some very nice numbers right away.

Running Backs – Travis EtienneJames RobinsonCarlos Hyde

This is a really tricky situation. Etienne is the first-round rookie out of Clemson, and all signs are pointing to him being the somewhat lead-back. Now, Robinson was a stellar ball-carrier last year for the Jaguars, tying fifth in the league in yardage and adding on seven rushing touchdowns. Hyde will also get involved as well on the goal line which makes these running backs hard to judge. Robinson and Etienne are both worth drafting but not too early and certainly not worth starting before we really see how the carries are getting split.

Wide Receivers – DJ CharkLaviska ShenaultMarvin Jones

Here we have a really nice group of receivers. The problem here though is that each steals touches from each other and it’s unsure who will be the focus. Chark has been the main receiver in Jacksonville for a while and has always put up nice fantasy numbers, averaging 12 points per game last season. Shenault has had an absolutely fantastic camp and could break out in a big way this year. As for Jones, he’s similar to Chark and was actually WR18 last year. This year, however, he likely faces a big decrease in touches. Overall, draft these guys in the later stages and certainly keep an eye on them as the season goes on.

Tight Ends – Chris ManhertzJames O’Shaughnessy

This tight end group is brutal. There’s really nothing to offer here and it’ll be a surprise if they even run with tight end sets much. This is by far the worst tight end group in the league, reminiscent of last year’s New England Patriots that just suffered at this position.

Defense/Special Teams

The Jaguars D/ST was not very good at all last season. They only averaged 3.6 points per game but things are looking up. The younger players like K’Lavon Chaisson and Josh Allen will continue to get better and better while signings like Shaquill GriffinRoy Robertson-Harris, and Rayshawn Jenkins will help out a lot. All in all, don’t pick up this unit until they have proven they can make it work. With that said, this group very well could do so.
