Is Matt LaFleur the answer to a Pack Return to the Super Bowl?

Green Bay–We all know the Green Bay Packers won’t be playing in the Super Bowl but new Packers coach Matt LaFleur will know some familiar faces that will be playing in the Super Bowl.

The most notable connection is the relationship between LaFleur and Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay. LaFleur was the Offensive Coordinator for the Rams under McVay. In that one season he was offensive coordinator, he turned Jared Goff into a superstar and coached the Rams offense to the No. 1 scoring offense and the No. 10 total offense in 2017.

The question is though can he do the same with another Cal-alum Aaron Rodgers? Even though LaFleur did that all in one year with Goff, Rodgers is a different quarterback. For nearly 13 years Rodgers played for former Packers coach Mike McCarthy. To change over quickly to a new coach and learn a new playbook is something Rodgers probably isn’t accustomed to. Whereas Goff was only in his second year in the NFL when he learned LaFleur’s offense.

Rodger is coming off a year where he threw 25 and only 2 interceptions. The 25 touchdowns though were his lowest in a 16 game season since the year the Packers won the Super Bowl where he threw for 28 touchdowns. We all saw that even Rodgers himself was getting tired of McCarthy’s offense. Even rumors of Rodgers calling his own plays surfaced on social media and from other teammates. So maybe the coaching change will help.

If the Packers want any chance at even making it to the Super Bowl in 2019 Rodgers, head coach Matt LaFleur and new offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett must have a good relationship. We all saw the struggles the Packers offense had in 2018. That was due to the relationship between McCarthy and Rodgers. If those three can gel together and get the offense rolling and with Mike Pettine returning to coach the Packers defense the Pack may be back in 2019.
