Indianapolis Colts vs. Kansas City Chiefs: Week 5 Preview

The Indianapolis Colts look to shake off last week’s loss as they travel to take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead.

Week 5 gives us a rematch of last year’s Divisional Round playoff match. With the retirement of Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett is looking to lead his team to victory and continue to show critics he just might be a potential star going forward. Patrick Mahomes, meanwhile, aims to bring home another victory to Arrowhead and continue his dominance as reigning MVP.

The Colts are looking for redemption from their playoff loss to the Chiefs. A much-anticipated televised Sunday night game is the opportunity they’ve been looking for. If they can topple the Chiefs, they will have accomplished a task many teams have failed to do since the Chiefs’ resurgence and acquisition of Mahomes.

One interesting aspect of the game is how both quarterbacks are tied for touchdowns this season. However, that is where the similarities in stats end. Brissett has thrown two interceptions compared to zero for Mahomes and in terms of yardage, there is a 599-yard difference between Mahomes (1,510) and Brissett (911). Both are impressive, but only one can be the victor in this week’s game.

A second interesting aspect of the upcoming game is the return of Colts defensive end Justin Houston to Arrowhead. He spent his first eight seasons in the NFL as a Chief, setting quite a few records with them. It will be interesting to see how the Chiefs will adjust to someone who understands how their offense thinks and works.

Injuries

Both teams have been plagued by injuries keeping good players out of a game they’re needed in. Most Chiefs fans will be unhappy that Tyreek Hill will still not see a game. Many were hoping to finally see him in action against the Colts. There will be some fans on either side who are saddened to not be able to see any type of matchup between Justin Houston and Eric Fisher. Both know each other well, and it would have been an interesting result to see.

Prediction

Unless they completely unravel, the Chiefs should win this game. The Colts will give them a run for their money at first, but eventually, the Chiefs will wear them down by outplaying them. If the Colts can keep up and play well, it will be interesting to see if Brissett’s stats can remain where they are in comparison to Mahomes, or if Mahomes blows him out of the water. If the Chiefs’ offensive line is careless or doesn’t pay attention, you might see Justin Houston making some big plays for the Colts.

Final Score: Colts 24, Chiefs 30
