How To Effectively Stream Pitchers

Michael Simione  | June 18th, 2019

Streaming and pitching matchups are without a doubt extremely important in fantasy baseball. It really helps in every league whether it is rotisserie, points or head to head categories. So besides looking at how a pitcher is performing to help boost our stats we also look at matchups before adding a pitcher. I decided to take some important underlying numbers and create a rotisserie like scoring system for every MLB team. I split them into home splits, away splits and just an overall ranking. This can help because you will be able to make a more educated decision on which pitcher to take off the wire.

Home/Away Splits

Away splits as of 6/17/19
Home splits as of 6/17/19

The first take I have based on this information is that Coors is and always will help offense tremendously. The Rockies go from the second-best offense at home to bottom five on the road. Some teams that are much better at home are the Reds, Mets, White Sox and Braves. While some of these teams are much better on the road like the Yankees, Twins, and Diamondbacks.

Streaming wise we should look to add pitchers who are home pitching against the Rockies, Marlins, Reds, Orioles, and Tigers. While we should be streaming pitchers on the road against the Orioles, Blue Jays, Tigers, Padres, and Giants.

Overall

Overall as of 6/17/19

Looking at the overall table we see the bottom five are the Orioles, Blue Jays, Giants, Marlins, and Tigers. These teams are the teams we should be targeting to stream against and you most likely will have a solid outcome. Of course, you do need to pick a decent pitcher and look at other variables such as weather and lefty-righty matchups. I also noted that surprisingly the Angels rarely strike out while the Brewers strike out a ton. The Tigers should be your main target. Not only are they at the bottom of the chart but they are literally bottom five in every category. They strike out a lot, don’t hit a lot of home runs and barely get on base.

Conclusion:

I’m sure some people would prefer other stats to be in these tables. I took what I thought would be best, and I figured this could be useful instead of checking which teams have the worse ERA’s, most strikeouts, or least homer runs. This provides a little bit of an overall outlook on which teams really are the worst and statistically give you the best chance for a positive outcome when streaming a pitcher.
