This afternoon Major League Baseball announced the 2018 Roberto Clemente Award Nominees for each team. Names such a Paul Goldschmidt, Jon Lester, and Rhys Hoskins were all nominated for their teams.

The Roberto Clemente Award recognizes players for their community involvement and philanthropic contributions. The nominee for the Boston Red Sox was not a surprise, as Brock Holt has constantly been involved in the Boston community.

Holt has been involved with the Jimmy Fund during his time in Boston, being a captain since 2014 with several of his teammates. He’s played a large part in the annual Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon, where the Jimmy Fund raises millions of dollars to support cancer research and patient care at Dana-Farber.

The Texas native has been nominated for the Red Sox before but has never won the award. The last Red Sox player to win the award was David Ortiz in 2011 with Tim Wakefield also winning the award the year before in 2010. Anthony Rizzo holds the award as he won in it 2017 for his charity’s work to find a cure for childhood cancer.

Holt has always been a great serving member of the Boston community and completely deserves recognition for his work. He is beloved as a Red Sox player and as a servant to his community.
