History of Chiefs, Patriots “Rivalry”

Today, the New England Patriots and the Kansas City Chiefs will face off for the 35th time.

There’s quite a bit of history between the two franchises that dates back to the original AFL. The first meeting between the two storied clubs was on Nov. 17, 1963 at Fenway Park. The game ended as a tie, 24-24. As it stands, the Chiefs hold a 17-13-3 edge against the Patriots, including an 11-3- 1 advantage in games played in Kansas City and a 5-1 record at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs are 6-10-2 in games in New England, including 0-3 at Gillette Stadium (0-4 including the postseason). One Big thing to add is that Mr. Tom Brady is a staggering 50-1 against AFC opponents on home turf.

The last time these two teams met in the regular season was on September 29, 2014 at Arrowhead Stadium. Most Patriots fans remember this day as one to forget but also as the day where the Patriots were poked for the last time. The Chiefs walked away with a 41-14 victory, in somewhat surprising fashion.

Let’s not forgot also that the last time these two met in a season opener back in 2008. It was that game when then-Chiefs safety Bernard Polard snappeded two ligaments in Brady’s knee, knocking him out for the season.

Now, we turn to the play callers. Head coaches Andy Reid and Bill Belichick both rank in the top 10 all-time in wins. Belichick’s 263 put him in fourth and Reid’s 184 are good for 10th. It’s always a chess match between the two.
