With the 2021 NFL Draft over and the schedule officially being released, it’s time for my third annual 32 part series where the top three questions will be posed for each NFL team. Here are those three questions for the New Orleans Saints.

Be sure to check out all of Heller’s Three Burning Questions.

What will Life Without Drew Brees be Like?

For the first time since 2005, someone other than Brees will be under center for the Saints in Week 1. The 13-time Pro Bowl selection and future Hall of Famer hung up his cleats after 20 seasons in the NFL, the last 15 in New Orleans. Taysom Hill is slated as the starter and former No. 1 overall pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jameis Winston, is behind him on the depth chart. Head coach Sean Payton has never been opposed to playing more than one quarterback through the course of a game.

Regardless of who is the quarterback, running back, Alvin Kamara will make their job that much easier. He finished last season with 1,688 total yards from scrimmage and 21 total touchdowns, six of those coming on Christmas Day, all on the ground. Kamara was selected to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl in his fourth NFL season.

Can Michael Thomas Return to Form?

Last season, Thomas only started five games and accumulated just 438 yards receiving and zero touchdowns. The duo that everyone expected to be a potent one when the Saints signed Emmanuel Sanders last offseason, never transpired. Sanders was one and done in the Big Easy, so we’ll never know. The three-time Pro Bowler Thomas was battling back from an injury all last season. He also had a handful of off-the-field issues with the team. But all expectations are that Thomas will be 100 percent, and he’ll be on a personal mission to prove he is still among the few elite players at his position in the league. Or just maybe the defensive backs in the league will prove that they can guard, Mike.

Can the Defense Remain Among the Best in the NFL?

Defensively, the Saints were in the top five in both yards and points allowed in 2020. Defensive end Cameron Jordan earned his fourth straight Pro Bowl selection. Strong safety Malcolm Jenkins, in his second stint in New Orleans, where he spent his first five seasons, had a solid season in the secondary. The Saints used their first two picks in the NFL Draft on the defensive side of the ball. They selected Houston defensive end Payton Turner No. 28 overall and linebacker Pete Werner in the second round out of Ohio State. The pair under the tutelage of the veterans will fit right in on this unit.
