Heller’s Three Burning Questions 3.0: Kansas City Chiefs

With the 2021 NFL Draft over and the schedule officially being released, it’s time for my third annual 32 part series where the top three questions will be posed for each NFL team. Here are those three questions for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Be sure to check out all of Heller’s Three Burning Questions.

Will Patrick Mahomes be in the MVP Conversation?

The Chiefs signal-caller still has his playmaking pass catchers, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce among his weapons. The combo has been a matchup problem for opposing defenses. When you add Mahomes’ ability to roll out and throw on the run or pull it down and take it himself has made it a nightmare.  While it seems the same handful of names have been in the conversation for the last few seasons. It’s hard to imagine a time when Mahomes’ name is not in the conversation for the Most Valuable Player, and it’s definitely not this year.

Will the Offensive Line Overhaul Gel Together Quickly?

Last season the offensive line battled injuries and let their quarterback get it way too much. The Chiefs handcrafted a new offensive line from around the league. They traded for left tackle Orlando Brown from the Baltimore Ravens. They also added former Patriots guard Joe Thuney, former Los Angeles Rams center Austin Blythe, journeyman right tackle Mike Remmers, and guard Kyle Long. A majority of times when a team replaces just one guy up front it takes time to mesh. So that may be the case in Kansas City, but if it is it’ll be short-lived. All five are veterans, two of which are multiple Pro Bowl selections, so they should have a minor learning curve if any, but they will be fine.

Will they make their Third Straight Super Bowl Appearance?

Andy Reid‘s team has represented the AFC in the last two Super Bowls. That alone makes them one of, if not the favorite to be playing in Los Angeles in February. With Mahomes leading the offense and only a few minor offseason changes defensively, they will be just as successful as they have been since Mahomes took over the offense. The target that comes with being a two-time conference champion, is obviously bigger this season than it was heading into last season. Playing in back-to-back Super Bowls has not been as rare of a feat, but rather almost become the norm. But the list of three straight is much shorter.
