With the 2021 NFL Draft over and the schedule officially being released, it’s time for my third annual 32 part series where the top three questions will be posed for each NFL team. Here are those three questions for the Houston Texans.

Who Will Be Under Center in Week 1?
Deshaun Watson has been adamant about wanting a trade out of Houston due largely to their questionable trades and cuts over the past few seasons. In addition, Watson is dealing with an off-field investigation. So, even if he were to mend things with the Texans organization, he may be sidelined by the league.
The other quarterbacks on the roster include; Tyrod Taylor, who by no fault of his own lost his starting job to Justin Herbert last season in Los Angeles with the Chargers. Veteran backup Jeff Driskel and 2021 third-round pick Davis Mills out of Stanford.
How Will The Texans’ Defense Look Without Their Leader?
The Texans released five-time Pro Bowl defensive end J.J. Watt to free up salary-cap space. Watt signed with the Arizona Cardinals.
Without Watt anchoring the defensive front in Houston, it will be interesting to see who the new defensive leader is on and off the field. The team added linebackers Christian Kirksey and Shaq Lawson to complement Whitney Mercilus. Combined with a secondary featuring Bradley Roby, Vernon Hargreaves, Justin Reid, and Desmond King, the defense should be able to hold their own against opposing offenses.
How Will Their Running Back by Committee Fare?
David Johnson is joined in the backfield by a pair of new additions, former Baltimore Ravens running back Mark Ingram and former Denver Bronco Phillip Lindsay. The pair are already used to sharing the backfield, so that shouldn’t be an issue for them. But, there may not be enough carries to go around for the offense, given the uncertainty at quarterback.
There are many question marks for the Texans. In a division with a pair of playoff teams a season ago, the Indianapolis Colts and the Tennessee Titans made key moves to likely vie for the AFC South crown. Then there’s the Jacksonville Jaguars, under a new head coach in Urban Meyer and new starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Things are looking up in Duval County. Unless there are moves yet to be made in Houston, they may be in for a long and disappointing season.
