Prior to the 2020 NFL season, three questions were posed for each of the 32 teams. This is the recap and answers to those questions for the Kansas City Chiefs.

If you want to look back at the previous article you can do that here

Can the Chiefs avoid the Super Bowl hangover and the target that comes with being the defending champs?

Andy Reid‘s team followed up their Super Bowl victory with their second straight Super Bowl appearance. Tom Brady and the Buccaneers ultimately ended their quest for back-to-back titles. The season was a harder fought one than a season ago. Many weeks, Patrick Mahomes and company found themselves playing from behind and coming back to steal games late, including Justin Herbert‘s debut in Los Angeles against the Chargers.

Although it’s not ideal to regularly be playing catch-up, it is a credit to the head coach and staff as much as the players. It also didn’t hurt the Chiefs to have tight end Travis Kelce and their number one receiver Tyreek Hill combine for almost 2,700 yards and 26 touchdowns. The team also survived a scary hit that led to Mahomes leaving a game with a concussion although it initially appeared to be much worse.

Is the running game enough or will it be a liability?

The running game in Kansas City was led by the first-round pick out of LSU, Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The back totaled 1,100 yards from scrimmage and found the end zone five times in his debut season.

Will the defense be able to replicate last season?

The Chiefs defense overall was around the middle of the league, which was evident with the offense playing often from behind. The unit was led by defensive back Tyrann Mathieu who finished the season with six interceptions and his second career Pro Bowl selection.
