Answered burning questions Colts

Prior to the 2020 NFL season, three questions were posed for each of the 32 teams. This is the recap and answers to those questions for the Indianapolis Colts.

Does Rivers have anything left?

After 16 seasons under center for the Chargers, Philip Rivers signed with the Colts last offseason. Much to the dismay of last season’s starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett, Rivers started all 16 games and the team went 11-5. The veteran threw for over 4,100 yards and 24 touchdown passes. The Colts earned a Wildcard spot after staying neck-and-neck with the Tennessee Titans down the stretch for the AFC South Division crown, just falling short of the top spot. The Colts took an early playoff exit after a loss to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

Rivers announced his retirement shortly after Indianapolis’ season came to an end. The team acquired quarterback Carson Wentz via trade from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Can their secondary stay healthy?

The addition of Xavier Rhodes was set to transform this secondary. But free safety Malik Hooker tore his Achilles in Week 2. The unit overcame Hooker’s injury.

The Colts boasted the eighth-ranked defense in 2020. The unit as a whole tallied 40 sacks and provided a plus-10 turnover differential

Was last season a fluke for Mack?

The team was hopeful Marlon Mack would pick up where he left off last season. Unfortunately for the Colts and Mack, his season ended after just four carries in Week 1 when the running back tore his Achilles tendon. Second-round pick Jonathan Taylor made the most of his opportunity. Taylor ended the season with just under 1,500 total yards and 12 total touchdowns

Veteran Nyheim Hines added 850 total yards and seven touchdowns of his own for the Colts. A healthy Mack in 2021 gives the Colts a rare three-headed monster at running back, if there are enough carries to go around.
