Prior to the 2020 NFL season, three questions were posed for each of the 32 teams. This is the recap and answers to those questions for the Detroit Lions.
Can Stafford play the whole season?
Matthew Stafford started all 16 games for Detroit, after starting only eight in 2019. The team finished with a 5-11 record but Stafford once again eclipsed the 4,000-yard passing mark. It’s the eighth time he has reached the mark in his 12 year career. The team, in a surprising move, sent Stafford, the 2009 first overall pick, to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Jared Goff, the 2016 number one overall pick, a pair of first-round picks along, and a third-round pick, shortly after the season ended.

Any more ex-Patriots in Motor City?
While the former Patriots individually had limited success in their first season in Detroit. The most successful was linebacker Jamie Collins who recorded over 100 tackles. But as for head coach Matt Patricia, he was fired in November along with general manager Bob Quinn, after the team’s 4-7 start to the season. New coach Dan Campbell has quite a few decisions to address on the defensive side of the ball.
What can they expect out of their first-round pick?
The number three overall pick and arguably the best defensive player in the draft behind Chase Young was Jeff Okudah. The rookie only played in nine games and tallied one interception. His rookie season ended prematurely in December when he was placed on injured reserve with groin and hamstring injuries that he attempted to play through to no avail. If he can get back in time to start the season, defensively the team would be solid in the secondary in 2021.
