Heller: 10 things I learned from Week 7

Here are 10 observations from Week 7 of the NFL season.

Magic is real, but not always enough. Miami Dolphins veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was poised to get the team’s first win of the season. He threw for a touchdown and ran in for another. But it wasn’t magical enough. Josh Allen led his Bills to victory. Meanwhile, Gardner Minshew, with plenty of help from his defense, got another win under his belt.

New uniform, no problem. Jalen Ramsey was traded to the Los Angeles Rams this week from the Jacksonville Jaguars where he was adamantly unhappy. The first task with his new team was Julio Jones, who Ramsey made sure was a non-factor.

They just scored again. NFC North teams scored a combined 139 points, but only two (the Packers and Vikings) earned wins. The Lions scored 30 points in their shootout with the Vikings. Meanwhile, the Bears scored 25 in their loss to the Saints.

I guess they didn’t gameplan for him. Chase Edmonds, not David Johnson, had 27 carries for 126 yards and three touchdowns (two from 20 yards out and one from 22 yards out) in the Cardinals’ win against the Giants.

No Luck, still no problem. Jacoby Brissett led the Colts to a victory at home against their division rivals, the Texans. The first-place Colts seem to be suffering no after-effects of Andrew Luck’s retirement.

Slipping and sliding to 6-0. On a soggy, windy FedEx Field, the San Francisco 49ers remained unbeaten. The only points came from kicker Robbie Gould, who kicked three field goals, the longest being a 29-yarder.

Back into the W column. The Rams were led by a three-touchdown game from Jared Goff in a blowout win against Atlanta. Meanwhile, the Chiefs, who were coming off back-to-back losses, beat the Broncos with ease, but Patrick Mahomes left the game with a knee injury.

Four touchdown minimum. Aaron Rodgers threw for five touchdowns and ran for one in a win against the Raiders. Kirk Cousins threw four touchdowns in a win against the Lions. Matthew Stafford threw four touchdowns in the loss to Cousins’s Vikings. Jacoby Brissett threw for four in a win against the Texans.

Jackson 500. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown in the team’s win against the Seahawks. That puts his season total at over 570 rushing yards, which is more than the Steelers, Chargers, Bears, Jets, Dolphins, Falcons, and Bengals have recorded as a team.

7-0 for the GOAT. The Patriots blew out the Jets, 33-0. You would think by that score, Tom Brady had four touchdowns passes. But he only had one. New England’s defense intercepted Sam Darnold four times and also recovered a pair of fumbles to help lead the Patriots to 7-0. And just when you would think they had enough weapons, New England acquired Mohamed Sanu from the Falcons Tuesday morning to boost their receiving core, who have been battling injuries.
