It’s hard to look at the recent reports coming out of Pittsburgh and not ask this question. It’s laughable when a team with so much talent cannot seem to get out of their own way.
All this started at last year’s draft when a team with glaring needs on the defensive side of the ball used their seven selections to draft four players on offense. In the eyes of many, that wasn’t only shocking, but downright laughable.
Next came the Le’Veon Bell contract dispute. In typical Steelers fashion, the team stuck to its antiquated ways and didn’t get the deal done, losing the services of an elite player because that’s “the Steeler way.”
Then, there were the numerous blunders that led to the team’s failure to make the playoffs. From a week one tie with the Browns to losses in Denver and Oakland, the Steelers made a mockery of themselves once again. Of course, these losses couldn’t have come without Ben Roethlisberger, the franchise quarterback, playing the role of tattle tail and placing blame on everyone but himself.
Finally, the season ends, and what happens? Antonio Brown goes off the deep end and once again the franchise plays the role of the NFL’s court jester.
All of it has been embarrassing to watch. Can the Steelers get off this carnival ride? Hopefully, because, as of now, this entire franchise is a complete laughing stock.
