There’s a building narrative around baseball that the Boston Red Sox could stick with an interim manager for the 2020 season and wait for an Alex Cora reunion in 2021.
The Red Sox have officially hired Ron Roenicke as their manager in 2020, but only to the “interim” title. It is evident that the Red Sox are looking forward to bring back Cora in the 2021 season, as there has been much speculation around the fact that Astros management had the overarching push to require the club to cheat back in 2017.
On 98.5’s Felger and Mazz show, the crew discussed the growing idea that the Red Sox would want to stay in house to hire an interim manager until Cora returns. Cora, while facing a possible suspension from Major League Baseball due to his involvement in the 2017 Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal, could come back to Boston when his suspension is over.
While the Red Sox continue to be held hostage by MLB’S investigation of the 2018 World Series team, many players, including J.D. Martinez, are adamant that the league will find nothing.
“I’m excited for the investigation to get over with just so they can see there was nothing going on here,” said Martinez. The Red Sox, continuing with the confidence, have told fans to “reserve judgment” on the investigation.
Even with an Alex Cora suspension in 2020, there is a path to an Alex Cora reunion in Boston. On the Felger and Mazz show, the speculation of the Red Sox firing Cora just to bring him back for the 2020 season, along with the MLB enforcement of the Cora firing, was a growing narrative.
