Grayson Murray shocked golf fans on Friday by posting a picture of a lengthy message from his notes app. The passage illustrates his personal struggles as a self-admitted alcoholic looking for—and failing to receive—help from his employers and the PGA.
He begins by describing what can only be understood by a select group of men on the planet: the mental strain of maintaining a successful career both on and off the golf course in the professional ranks. As if making cuts, paying a caddy, and handling entree and travel expenses weren’t stressful enough, Murry goes on to detail the lack of guidance and attention the PGA gave him after his attempts to seek help. Instead, the Association fined him a chunk of change that is a much larger percentage of his annual income than the Phil Mickelsons of the world.

Speaking of Lefty, Phil was the most prominent name in the golf world to respond to Murray’s tweet.
Mickelson responded by saying, “Even winning every year can bring about other challenges.”
I’m sorry playing the Tour has been so overwhelming and if I can help in any way I’d be happy https://t.co/tfJcavISRd’s not an easy life for sure, and even winning every year can bring about other challenges. FYI “we will get back to you” is the only response I’ve ever gotten too.

Undoubtedly, that is not something that a golfer who has missed seven straight cuts wants to hear.
Although Murray pulled the curtain back on the stark differences between the top players and the rest of the field, Mickelson echoed that the PGA gave him the same treatment. “‘We will get back to you’ is the only response I’ve ever gotten too,” he tweeted.
All of this comes after a hellish start of the month for Grayson. The 27-year-old lost three family members within two days, including two to a brutal robbery gone wrong.
One can only hope that he has a brighter future ahead of him with a much greater support system.
