The 57th Super Bowl is set between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. On Champion Sunday, the Eagles secured a win over the San Fransico 49ers in the NFC Champions. Then later, the Chiefs got a win over the Cincinnati Bengals. So, without further ado, the Top Team of the Week from Championship Sunday is the Kanas City Chiefs.

The Lamar Hunt Trophy Returns to KC

The Lamar Hunt trophy will be in Kansas City for the third time in the past four AFC Championships. Lamar Hunt was Kansas City’s founder. Hunt also founded the American Football League. That League is technically still alive today. Most modern AFC teams are composed of original AFL teams, for example, the Denver Broncos and the Buffalo Bills.

The Offense Got that Dawg in Them

Here are three offensive players for the Chiefs who had the most significant impact in the AFC Championship.

Patrick Mahomes is a menace to the NFL. He not only played an NFL game with a high ankle sprain but played in the AFC Championship, won it, and sent his team to the Super Bowl. In the AFC Championship, Mahomes threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns with one leg and possibly a lot of medicine.

Travis Kelce had a great game versus the Cincinnati Bengals. Kelce had seven receptions for 78 yards and one touchdown. During Kansas City’s celebration, Kelce had a choice of words for the mayor of Cincinnati, Aftab Pureval “KNOW YOUR ROLE AND SHUT YA MOUTH YA JABRONI!”. This was said after the mayor’s comments, Joseph Lee Burrow, who’s 3-0 against Mahomes, has been asked by officials to take a paternity test confirming whether or not he’s his father”. It makes sense this happened since the mayor’s middle name is Karma.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling was a game-changer for the Chiefs. MVS was their leading receiver with six receptions for 116 yards and one touchdown. Valdez-Scantling was the only receiver on Sunday to get over 100 yards (this includes the NFC and AFC Championships).

Defense Wins AFC Championship

The Chiefs Defense was a huge reason they won against Cincinnati. Kansas City was able to shut down Cincinnati’s offense. Kansas City’s front line was able to sack Burrow five times. The leader for sacks was Chris Jones, with two sacks. Then Frank Clark had one-and-half sacks. Rookie George Karlaftis III had one sack, and Willie Gay Jr. had a half sack. In this game, their defense picked him off once by rookies Joshua Williams and Jaylen Watson, who had a tip-and-pick.

Quality of Opponent

The Phillideplha Eagles arguably could have been the Team of the Week. Kansas City is the Team of the Week, but the quality of the opponent plays a role in who is crowned the Top Team. The Eagles played against a 49ers team that was injured at the quarterback position. It was so bad that their running back, Christian McCaffery, played a snap at quarterback. Furthermore, the Chiefs were playing a Bengals squad with a majority of staters and a better quarterback.

The Final Top Team of the Week

This will be the last Top Team of the Week for this season. Ironically the final Top Team of the Week series ends with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs were the team that this series started with back in Week 1. A total of 13 NFL teams appeared on this list. The team with the most appearances is the Philadelphia Eagles appeared four times on this list (Weeks 14, 12, 9, and 3), which makes sense because the Eagles are in the Super Bowl. It has been an honor writing this series. Next season is going to be bigger and better than ever.
