In Week 10 of the 2023 NFL season, six teams delivered walk-off field goals, including the Houston Texans.

For the first time in the history of this series, the Team of the Week is the Houston Texans.

C.J. Stroud Gonna C.J. Stroud

The Houston Texans are 5-4 and in a place to not only make the playoffs but win the AFC South division. Houston is in this position thanks to rookie sensation C.J. Stroud. In Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals, he went 23 of 29 for 356 yards and one touchdown. In addition, Stroud had two carries for eight yards and a rushing touchdown. One week earlier, he threw for 450 yards, a single-game rookie record.

Wheeling and Dealing with C.J. Stroud

Stroud has been making the most of his wide receivers. On paper, does the Houston receiving core look good? No. But are their receivers still making plays and performing great? Yes. The Texans’ leading receiver in Week 10 was Noah Brown who had seven receptions for 172 yards, followed by Dalton Schultz‘s four receptions and 72 yards. Tank Dell was the lone receiver to snag a touchdown along with six receptions for 93 yards.

Former Buffalo Bill Devin Singletary carried the rushing game with 30 carries for 150 yards (5.0 yards per carry) and one touchdown.

Other Notes Besides Stellar Offense

DeAndre Houston-Carson and Shaquill Griffin were able to pick off Joe Burrow in the fourth quarter. Matt Ammendola converted the game-winning field goal for the Texans.

If I had a nickel for every game the Texans won because of a kicker, I would have two nickels — which is not a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Playoffs?

Houston still has a very real chance to make the playoffs, either as a Wild Card team or division winner. The Texans’ main competition for the AFC South is the Jacksonville Jaguars who were eviscerated by the San Francisco 49ers this week.

Houston, We Have a … Winning Team?!

As previously mentioned, this is the first time the Houston Texans were nominated as my Team of the Week. Will they be able to keep it up into December and January? Only time will tell.
