Fresh 7&7 For the Week of 6/10-6/16

John Lepore | June 18th, 2019

Filling in for your regular bartender, as John “Supi” Supowitz is off this week, I’ll try to do these hitters justice.

Charlie Blackmon – Chuck Nazty was downright…well…nasty this week. He set a record with 15 hits in a four-game series over the weekend vs. the San Diego Padres. For the week The Bearded One went 21-37 with 6 HRs and 15 RBI and raised his slash line from .295/.355/.551 to .336/.385/.652. He absolutely loves hitting at Coors Field. He hasn’t gone hitless at home since April 8 vs. the Atlanta Braves.

Ketel Marte – On the road this past week, Marte proved he could hit anywhere. The wiry Diamondback slashed .448/.515/.1.034 and mashed 5 HRs, the last of which was his number 20 for the season. All of his HRs were solo shots, but we like shots of any kind around here. Cheers Ketel One.

Scott Kingery – After a month off between April 19 and May 19, Kingery got his job back. This past week he proved why he was hyped up going into last season. He hit a cool .500 with 4 HRs and 8 RBI. He raised his season OPS to 1.049 and now Scotty Jetpacks has as many HRs as he did last year. Keep an eye on this 25-year-old as he may be on this list a few more times.

Ian Desmond – Blackmon wasn’t the only Rockie to get in on the hit parade this weekend. Desmond who has been somewhat of a disappointment since signing with Colorado had himself a week. He batted .500 (13-26) and had 13 RBI. Was this a fluke? We may have to check his ID before serving this guy.

Manny Machado – Notice a theme yet? The weekend in Colorado was a feast for hitters and the Padres got in on the act as well. This may be exactly what the doctor ordered for Manny. He got paid a ton of money this offseason and was flying under the radar with his bat. This week though, he slashed .440/.500/.880 with three bombs. Maybe this will be the beginning of Manny being Manny 2.0.

Josh Donaldson – The Bringer of Rain made it pour this week. He was 10-27 with six of those hits for extra bases (2 doubles, 4 HRs). He also drove in eight runs and helped the Braves to a 6-1 record for the week. All the Braves fans…shots of JD on the house.

Hunter Renfroe – Another beneficiary of the perfect storm that was Coors Field this weekend. To be fair though, Renfroe has been clobbering the ball all season. This week though he had a ridiculous .962 slugging percentage as five of his nine hits left the yard including three of his bombs in one game last Friday. Baseballs have been his prey this season as Hunter has 23 HRs in just 227 PAs.
