Dallas Cowboys defensive end talked his way out of New England seems to hold no hard feelings towards his former team.
In an interview with The Athletic’s Jon Machota, the Super Bowl champion defensive end said that every defense is a carbon copy of the other. Except New England.
“It’s all the same really when it comes down to it,” Bennett said to Machota. “The scheme is very familiar to something I’m used to. I just came from (New England) with the most defenses in the league, so any other defense is pretty much easy to learn.”
His take on the Patriots defense being complex while complemental, was also another way of saying it just was not a great fit for the simplicity of Bennett’s game.
Bennett who had one sack and five tackles in his first two appearances with the Cowboys, is having fun and feels like he belongs after being traded for a fifth-round pick.
“Everybody loves the Cowboys around the country,” Bennett said. “I grew up watching the Cowboys, Alvin Harper, Michael Irvin, Ken Norton, all those guys. It’s an honor to be ables to play for an organization that you grew up in Houston able to see.”
Bennett and the Cowboys play the Detroit Lions on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. while his former team, the Patriots play their NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles later at 4:25 p.m.
