As the Kansas City Chiefs defensive coaching staff continues to shuffle one Kansas City Chief is set to retire, again.
Kansas City Chiefs Hall-of-Fame cornerback Emmitt Thomas has announced that he will be stepping away from coaching and will retire. This news comes nearly 40 years after Thomas retired as a Chiefs player in 1978.
Thomas, 75, spent the last eight seasons as Kansas City’s defensive backs coach, having mentored plenty of great defensive backs during his time with the Chiefs, most notably Eric Berry, Marcus Peters, and Sean Smith.
According to recent reports, the Chiefs have already found Thomas’ replacement in David Merritt. Merritt, 47, has had coaching stops in Arizona, Jacksonville and New York, where he worked with star safety Landon Collins.
