Florida Governor Opens State to Sports

While states are working on reopening, sports are still on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, they could be returning very soon. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Wednesday that sports could return to Florida.

“All professional sports are welcome here for practicing and for playing,” DeSantis said. “What I would tell commissioners of leagues is, if you have a team in an area where they just won’t let them operate, we’ll find a place for you here in the state of Florida.”

It’s no surprise that DeSantis is opening up sports to Florida. Last month he deemed the WWE and UFC as essential, allowing them to have events in Florida without fans.

Florida isn’t the only state where sports can resume. On Tuesday Arizona governor Doug Ducey announced that sports can resume in Arizona.

This is good news for all sports. One sport that could benefit from this is Major League Soccer. MLS is looking at Disney World in Orlando as a place to resume games, according to Jim Turner of the News Service of Florida. The NBA is also considering Disney World as a place where it could resume its season.

Major League Baseball could have games in Florida and Arizona as they look to start their season in July.
