The NFL preseason is in full swing, meaning the regular season is just around the corner. Let’s look at five Carolina Panthers set to make an impact in 2022.

Shi Smith, WR

Smith has impressed during the preseason. During Week 1 against the Washington Commanders, Smith had two receptions for 34 yards. In Week 2, he had one reception for eight yards. During the Commanders game, Smith seemed to be a familiar target for Baker Mayfield. He would be a good depth option at wide receiver because, outside of DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson, the Panthers have minimal depth at the position.

Tae Hayes, CB

Hayes led the team in tackles against the Commanders with five. In the next game, Hayes picked off Bailey Zappe and took it to the house for six. He would fit as a rotational cornerback who comes in for a series or two.

Keith Kirkwood, WR

Kirkwood had three receptions for 38 yards in the first preseason game. In the second game, he caught two passes for 31 yards. If Kirkwood makes the roster, he would definitely make an impact.

Rashard Higgins, WR

Higgins would be great on the team because he is a familiar target for Baker Mayfield. The duo played together in Cleveland, and Higgins notched a combined five receptions for 33 yards between the two preseason games.  He represents another solid depth option.

Brandon Smith, LB

Smith has shown he might be a draft steal for the Panthers. He didn’t play in the first preseason game, most likely due to him projecting as a starter. In the second game, Smith had three solo tackles, one assist, and one sack. He could make an impact as a linebacker.
