Fantasy Playoffs Booms, Busts, and Floors: Week 16

Fantasy Playoffs Booms, Busts, and Floors: Week 16

Congratulations to those who have moved on to the fantasy championship in your respective leagues. As you prepare for your matchup, let’s analyze some players that could boom or bust this week, while also looking into players with very safe floors.

Boom

David Johnson

Johnson dominated the Colts through the air last week, catching 11 balls for 106 yards out of the backfield. With Duke Johnson likely limited if he’s able to suit up this week, David could be left to handle receiving back duties once again, a role he often filled in Arizona. Houston takes on the Bengals, who just somehow pulled off a wild upset over the Steelers. That being said, Johnson should still be able to take advantage of their subpar run defense and has obvious boom potential.

Jarvis Landry

As Baker Mayfield has come into his own over the past few games, so has Landry. The veteran receiver has scored 19-plus PPR points in three of his last four games, setting him up for a big game against the lowly Jets this week. Fire him up as a solid WR2 with upside.

Le’Veon Bell

Rookie Clyde Edwards-Helaire suffered a high-ankle sprain and a strained hip during Sunday’s contest against the Saints, knocking him out for at least a few weeks. This leaves Bell as the clear starter in Kansas City’s high-octane offense. Anyone who gets consistent reps for the Chiefs has tremendous upside, so confidently start Bell this week.

Bust

Adam Thielen

Thielen is an absolute monster in the end zone, scoring 13 touchdowns so far this year. However, his target share has been inconsistent in the second half of the season with Justin Jefferson emerging as a legitimate star. As a result, Thielen has failed to score over 10 PPR points in his last two games. This week, he’ll likely draw a matchup against Marshon Lattimore, which does not help his chances of bouncing back.

Chris Carson

Carson struggled against a tough Washington run defense last game, scoring just 8.9 PPR points. This week, he’ll take on a stout Rams defense that is eager to bounce back from their embarrassing loss against the Jets. I wouldn’t bet on Carson producing against Aaron Donald and company in a divisional matchup with significant playoff implications.

T.Y. Hilton

After a three-game hot streak, Hilton was just average last week against the Texans. This Sunday, Indianapolis takes on a Steelers team desperate for a win. The Colts will likely continue to rely on their running game, while Hilton plays second fiddle for the second-straight contest.

Safe Floor

Brandon Aiyuk

Aiyuk has dominated lately, scoring 18.5-plus PPR points in each of his last five games. The rookie has caught at least seven balls in four of those contests, solidifying himself as a huge factor in San Francisco’s offense. Fire the rookie up as a low-end WR1 this week against the Cardinals.

Josh Jacobs

Jacobs returned to workhorse status last game against the Chargers, proving that his lingering ankle injury isn’t that big of a deal anymore. His matchup against the Dolphins this week isn’t extremely enticing, but you can count on Jacobs to receive 18-plus touches, making him a safe option.

Chris Godwin

After a disappointing Week 14, Godwin bounced back against the Falcons. The fourth-year receiver has now scored 13.5-plus PPR points in four of his last five games, setting him up as a solid WR2 against an abysmal Lions secondary this week.
