The Atlanta Falcons are reportedly signing a pair of free agent guards, according to various reports.

First, the team signed left guard James Carpenter to a four-year deal, a source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

Carpenter, nearly 30, was a 2011 first-round selection of the Seattle Seahawks. He joined the Jets in 2014 and spent four years there, finishing up his stint with them in 2018 when he started all ten of the games he appeared in. Throughout his career, James has started 97 games and appeared in 103, recovering three fumbles (all with the Jets).

15 minutes after the Falcons signed Carpenter, Vaughn McClure of ESPN reported that the team agreed to (undisclosed) terms with guard Jamon Brown.

Brown, 25, was a 2015 third-round selection of the then-St. Louis Rams inked a four-year deal upon being drafted, but he didn’t last the full four campaigns. He had strong 2015 and 2016 seasons before an excellent 2017 year but was suspended two games in July 2018. He was later placed on the IR and eventually waived before latching on with the New York Giants to finish the 2018 season, starting all eight games he appeared in in the Big Apple.

With the new league year looming, the Falcons make two sneaky good signings to help protect quarterback Matt Ryan.
