Former New England Patriots cornerback Cyrus Jones has dealt with conflicts off the field and had no way to overcome them.

While recovering from an injury, the now Baltimore Raven turned to writing lyrics.

“I always had a passion for music,” Jones told Prime Time Sports Talk. “I just always messed around with it and never took it serious until I tore my ACL in my second season and couldn’t move around that much so I started writing again.”

After he was released by the Pariots, the former second-round pick grabbed a pen and let it all out.

“One day lead to another, I got cut, came home, and started hitting the studio in Baltimore,” Jones said. “That’s how it all started.”

“Mental health is definitely a serious thing,” Jones said. “Nobody should be afraid to try and get help and get healthy.”

Jones will be performing live in concert for the first time and admitted that while he is looking forward to it, he has some butterflies.

“I’m excited about it and a little nervous,” Jones said. “But that’s with comes with anything new.”

Jones never really looked at it as a possible career avenue after football. For now, it is just something he loves to do in his spare time.

“It’s [just for now] form of expression for myself, ” Jones said.”So if people like it and I’m successful with that, I’ll make the proper decision when the time comes but for now it’s just what I like to do.”

Jones teased his fans that he is indeed in the middle of working on his first album.

“I’ve got a project I’m working on,” Jones said. “I don’t really want to get into any details but, it’s [definitely] something I’m working on.”
