Early Season Injuries Make Play of Young Bruins Even More Critical

The Boston Bruins season is only two games old, but the injuries are already beginning to mount.

Torey Krug has a fractured jaw and is going to be fairly limited for the foreseeable future.

David Backes has some sort of virus that has been limiting his ability to practice.

Patrice Bergeron has been nursing some sort of lower-body injury that caused him to miss the first two games of the season.

New to the injury report is Noel Acciari who suffered a fractured finger in the season opener and will miss the next six weeks.

Brad Marchand is unlikely to miss any playing time, but he did suffer some sort of leg injury in the season opener that forced him into a walking boot for a couple nights.

All of these injuries have led to increased playing time for Boston’s youngest players.

Krug’s absence has led to more workload for well hyped rookie defenseman Charlie McAvoy. McAvoy scored his first career goal in the team’s season opener against the Nashville Predators.

Acciari’s injury is tricky because he was a key piece of the penalty kill. The Bruins will need to try some new combinations while the other team has a man advantage.

The surprise emergence of Jake DeBrusk has given the Bruins another potential offensive weapon to make a name for himself while others are injured. DeBrusk also scored his first career goal in last week’s season opener.

This season was supposed to be all about grooming young players, they’ll certainly be tested over the next month where they’ll likely be forced to eat more minutes.

The Bruins will be back on the ice Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 9:30 p.m. on the road against the Colorado Avalanche.
