Joel Dorcas |September 4th, 2019
The calendar has flipped over to September, the kids are back to school and summer days are about to turn into crisp, cooler days. Heck, I kinda like it as I was just out for some tennis and felt like the coolness gave me some extra energy. This, of course, has nothing to do with what brings you, the reader, here. Let’s dig into this somewhat un-inspiring eight-game nightcap before I start talking about the weather again. Twins at Red Sox, 11 runs implied total/ Tigers at Royals, 9.5/ Rockies at Dodgers, 9.5 are our games to target for bats. By now you know the drill, tell grandma, we’re going Around the Horn!
PITCHER
Trevor Williams PIT $6,600
The pitching landscape is fairly straight forward tonight. Shane Bieber will be on virtually everyone’s radar tonight in a plus matchup against the strikeout-prone White Sox. We need to pair him with salary saver such as Williams. Williams draws the Miami Marlins who are averaging just 3.70 runs per game this season (29th) and just 3.30 runs per game on the road (30th). Williams has notched two straight wins since August 19. A 21.6 pt performance at Colorado and a 21.1 pt performance at home to Cincinnati.
INFIELD
Adam Frazier PIT 2B $4,100
The Pirates will get their first crack at rookie right-hander Robert Dugger. They will be led by leadoff hitter Adam Frazier. Frazier is swinging a hot stick of late, he is 13-for-27 during his current six-game hit streak. He also has a homer in back-to-back games. Versus the Marlins this season, Frazier is averaging 9.8 DK pts in four games and is hitting .417 with a 1.295 OPS in 12 at-bats.
Paul Goldschmidt STL 1B $3,900
We have a very nice price point here with Goldy, but we have to realize that Goldschmidt had a very lackluster month of August (.250, 4 homers, 15 RBI). As a whole, it’s been a decent season as the multi-time all-star has put up 74 RBI and 29 bombs to date. The Cards draw Madison Bumgarner who has been pretty good this season. Let’s hope Goldschmidt can continue his torrid pace in this head-to-head matchup. He is 23-for-67 with 3 big-flies and 11 RBI all-time versus Bumgarner. As for Bumgarner, he is 4-5 with a 4.59 ERA in 11 career starts versus the Red Birds.
OUTFIELD
Jake Bauers CLE $3,700
Opportunity is knocking for the 23-year old outfielder/first baseman now that fellow teammate and outfielder Tyler Naquin has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury. Bauers is likely to get the nod for the starting lineup versus right-hander Ivan Nova. Nova has struggled over his last two starts giving up five runs on 14 hits over the course of 9.2 innings in losses to the Rangers and Braves. As a team, the White Sox have given up an incredible 60 runs over their last seven games. In 13 games versus Chicago this season, Bauers is hitting .316 and averaging 7.4 DK pts per game.
Jorge Soler KC $4,700
Soler has absolutely destroyed Tiger pitching this season. In 17 games this season he has 28 hits, good for a .444 clip, he also has nine dingers and a robust 1.500 OPS. Look for the Royals and Soler to punish Edwin Jackson and Tiger pitching in this one. Jackson is just 3-8 with a laughable 9.35 ERA on the season and has yielded 19 runs in 12.1 innings of work over the course of three straight losses. The Tigers own the third-worst ERA in the majors with a mark of 5.21.
