Tonight will be a good night to practice what it will be like once playoff baseball begins in October. Way fewer games to pick from for our starting lineups. All toll just five are on the docket for the evening slate. Pretty straight forward, we have an ace going for Cleveland against the woeful Detroit Tigers. As for bats, three powerhouse offenses should be targeted as they are all in good spots against a left-handed starter. Let’s get right to it and go Around the Horn!
PITCHER
Mike Clevinger CLE $11,400
A whole lot to like with Mike Clevinger against the Tigers tonight. Not only has he dominated Detroit in two starts this season, 2-0, 22K/14IP, 0.64 ERA, 37.5 DK pts per game, but he will also get the advantage of playing at home where he pitches at a 1.98 ERA (on the road it sits at 3.42). The Tigers are hitting just .191(9-for-47) as a team off of Clevinger this season.
INFIELD
DJ LeMahieu NYY 2B/3B $4,600
Not much else you can say about LeMahieu this season as he has continued to be an elite talent. Tonight he will get a couple boosts as he will face a left-hander in Andrew Heaney and he will get the home advantage at Yankee Stadium. Versus southpaws LeMahieu clocks in at .382 with a hefty .632 SLG (vs. R: .310, .474 SLG). The home/away splits are nice too, at home:.338, .966 OPS, on the road:.321, .827 OPS.
C.J. Cron MIN 1B $3,900
The Twins absolutely rake against left-handed pitching. The rank as the number one team in batting average(.287) and runs scored(255) versus lefties. Cron, who has struggled recently, profiles better against southpaws, he is hitting 100 points higher than when matched up against right-handers(.325/.225). The power numbers are great as well, 11 of his 24 HRs in 59 fewer games come against left-handed pitching. Cron has good success versus the Royals this season as he is hitting .333 with a .990 OPS and three homers in nine contests.
OUTFIELD
Marwin Gonzalez MIN OF/3B $3,900
Gonzalez is a versatile piece to the puzzle for the Twins. He will add depth and can fill in almost anywhere on the diamond. He recently returned from injury and promptly has gone 4-for-10 before last night’s play. Gonzalez at $3.9 K is completely fair for a player, who like everyone else in this write-up, profiles well against lefties(.313, 823 OPS).
Aaron Judge NYY $4,500
All rise! Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees are at home against, you guessed it, a left-handed starter. The Bronx bombers rank fifth in the Bigs in runs scored(240) and seventh in batting average(.273) versus southpaws. Judge has done serious damage to lefties this season. Over a 100 point increase in batting average(.241 vs R/ .344 vs L), as well as a dramatic increase to slugging percentage, .466 vs R, .635 vs L.
Good luck to everyone tonight, keep grinding out those lineups!
