The Miami Heat scored a victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday. Like the Spurs, the Heat are trying to lock in a spot for the 2021 playoffs. Miami got a huge contribution off the bench from Dewayne Dedmon. In 16 minutes of action, Dedmon recorded 18 points and nine rebounds off the bench.

He also recorded a huge block on Rudy Gay.

Dedmon was signed by the Heat weeks ago to address their questionable frontcourt. Miami traded two of their bigs in Kelly Olynyk and Meyers Leonard prior to the trade deadline. Heat rookie center Precious Achuiwa has been unplayable. In limited minutes, Dedmon has provided solid contributions off the bench. Most importantly, he’s allowed Miami to give Bam Adebayo more rest.

Dedmon has also earned the respect of Heat all-star Jimmy Butler. After Wednesday’s victory over the Spurs, The five-time all-star had many great things to say about Dedmon. Here’s what he said about the Heat reserve, per Brendan Tobin of 790 The Ticket.

First of all, he’s over there talking extremely loud, but, outside of that. It’s easy when you play with a bunch of guys that play the right way. And that want to pass the ball.

He just… he plays incredibly hard. He’s unselfish.

He takes all the right shots and we probably actually want him to shoot the ball a little bit more, especially on that pick & pops, but he’s a pro’s pro.

He comes in, he stars in his role. And um, he’s not handed anything.

I think he has earned every trip up and down that floor and every minute that he’s been given.

Given that he’s been sitting at home all year, it’s incredible how he has stayed in shape and contributed so soon. It’s very surprising that other teams didn’t sign him before Miami did. And Miami should be thankful.
